Using tags is a great way to group your tasks in a way that makes sense for your workflow. For example, sometimes you only want to see tasks that are in progress, tasks that are quick to complete, or when you want to work on a task.
Here are a few different examples of how you can use tags in Doit.io:
Describe the status of a task
Creating tags that describe the status of it is a great way to make sure everyone is aware of what's going on. The status can, for example, represent a Kanban board as below:
- #To-do
- #In-progress
- #On hold
- #Done (or just mark the task completed)
To list all "in-progress" tasks, simply search for '#in-progress' or click the tag itself either within the search bar on within the note.
Setting priorities for your tasks
If you want to become more productive, setting priorities is key to success. You can mark tasks as 'Important' in doit.io, but you can also use tags to define these further. This is especially useful if you have a long list of tasks within one or more notes.
- #Priority-1 (or P1)
- #Priority-2 (or P2)
- #Priority-3 (or P3)
The key to using priorities is not to use too many of them, or they will lose their power. Be consistent, conscious, and ruthless when you set your priorities, so that you may give your tasks the attention that they deserve.
Level of energy to complete a task
Sometimes it's useful to tag tasks with the amount of mental energy it would take to complete it. For example:
- #high
- #easy
- #low
- #boring
How much time you need to complete a task
Sometimes it's good to know how much time specific tasks will take to complete. Let's say you have 20 mins before a meeting, you can filter tasks by the time required to complete them. You might have a quick call to make. Mark it with a '5-mins' tag.
- #5min
- #10min
- #60min
What type of work
If you're running a project or wants a better distinction between tasks, it can be useful to categories your tasks depending on what type of work they represent. For example, to get a better overview you want to list all tasks involving copywriting, or design, or development.
- #Copy
- #Design
- #Dev
